A farmer looks out over his olive grove in the fertile bottomlands along the Vjosa River, below the village of Kuta. The villagers all rely on the fields for their livelihoods in this small side valley. If the Pocem dam is built, the reservoir will drown their fields, effectively eliminating all the jobs in the village. The Vjosa River in Albania is the last large free flowing river system in Europe. The search for more energy, through hydroelectric dams threatens this natural resource.
